Government and UNDP Lesotho Launch Digital Inclusion and Literacy Initiative at Lerotholi Polytechnic

The government of Lesotho, in partnership with UNDP Lesotho, launched a digital inclusion and digital literacy initiative today at Lerotholi Polytechnic. The programme aims to expand access to digital infrastructure, skills, and opportunities across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Nthati Moorosi, Deputy Principal Secretary Mrs. Lineo Ramabele said the launch marks another step toward ensuring no one is left behind in the digital era. She highlighted the government’s focus on enabling every Mosotho to access digital health services and digital agriculture tools.

Mrs. Ramabele announced that 40 community digital ambassadors have been trained and are ready to begin their work in communities. She emphasised that the vision is for every village to have access to digital infrastructure.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Ratšiu Majara, said the equipment provided through the initiative will help bridge educational gaps and prepare students for the future. He noted that the collaboration will contribute to shaping a digitally capable Lesotho.

UNDP Representative in Lesotho, Mr. Tay Amssalu, praised the Ministry of ICT and the Ministry of Education for their commitment to digital transformation. He expressed his satisfaction in handing over laptops, tablets, and certificates to the newly trained digital ambassadors.

Lesotho Communications Authority CEO, Mr. Nizam Goolam, confirmed that computer labs have been established in high schools and Wi-Fi access extended to universities. He stressed that improving infrastructure is essential to ensuring every citizen can fully participate in the digital world.
