Gaborone Hosts Regional Workshop to Boost Gender-Aware Reporting in Media

Journalists from Lesotho and Botswana gathered in Gaborone this week for a five-day training aimed at enhancing gender-aware reporting and increasing the presence of women’s voices in media. The programme engages 22 media outlets across five countries, focusing on promoting gender equality both in content and newsroom practices.

The workshop, running from Monday to Friday, is part of the Media Parity Capacity Building Programme. Led by Canal France International Media Development in partnership with Gender Links, the initiative seeks to strengthen journalists’ skills in reporting on gender issues, encourage the inclusion of women as news sources, and foster professional and inclusive newsroom cultures.

Participants will receive practical guidance on producing content that accurately represents women’s perspectives and addresses gender disparities. The training also emphasizes strategies for transforming newsroom environments to support equality and inclusivity.

By equipping journalists with these skills, the programme aims to create media content that reflects diverse experiences, promotes balanced reporting, and contributes to broader efforts toward gender equality in Southern Africa.
