Lesotho and the United Nations Mark 80 Years of Partnership at #UN80 Exhibition

The #UN80 Exhibition has opened in Maseru to commemorate 80 years of the United Nations and to celebrate decades of collaboration between the UN and the Government of Lesotho. The exhibition, held at Pioneer Mall, highlights shared achievements in sustainable development, peace, and social progress.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoane, and UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, led the tour of the exhibition. The two officials reflected on the long-standing partnership that has advanced Lesotho’s development goals in health, education, and environmental sustainability.
Hon. Mpotjoane reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to the UN’s vision of inclusive and sustainable growth. He noted that the cooperation between the UN and Lesotho has brought tangible progress in key areas such as youth empowerment, gender equality, and poverty reduction.
Ms. Mukwashi emphasized the strength of Lesotho’s partnership with the UN. She stated that the collaboration has supported national priorities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that no one is left behind.
The exhibition showcases milestones from various UN agencies working in Lesotho, including initiatives in climate resilience, health services, governance, and education. Visitors can explore multimedia displays, photographs, and data showing how joint projects have improved livelihoods and supported vulnerable communities.
The event also provides a platform for dialogue on future cooperation between Lesotho and the UN, focusing on accelerating progress toward the 2030 Agenda. Both the Ministry and the UN team expressed optimism about strengthening collective efforts to tackle challenges such as unemployment, inequality, and climate change.
The #UN80 Exhibition will remain open to the public throughout the week, offering citizens an opportunity to learn about the UN’s impact in Lesotho and to reflect on the country’s journey toward sustainable development.
