King Letsie III Honoured for Leadership in Lesotho Highlands Water Project at Africa Water Investment Summit

His Majesty King Letsie III has been recognised for his exceptional leadership in championing the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) at the Africa Water Investment Summit in Cape Town. The award highlights the project as a continental model for transboundary cooperation, peace, resilience, and sustainable development.

The award was received on behalf of the King by Hon. Mohlomi Moleko. It celebrates His Majesty’s vision in advancing one of Africa’s most successful water infrastructure initiatives, which has strengthened collaboration between Lesotho and South Africa for decades. The LHWP provides essential water to millions, generates clean hydropower for Lesotho, and promotes trust, economic interdependence, and stability across borders.

Lesotho’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, H.E. Ambassador Ntsiuoa Sekete, described the recognition as “a testament to what Africa can achieve through cooperation grounded in equity and mutual benefit.” She emphasised that the LHWP illustrates how strategic infrastructure investments can drive peace, economic growth, and climate resilience.

The Africa Water Investment Summit gathers leaders, policymakers, and financiers to mobilise investments securing Africa’s water future in line with Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Water is more than a resource; it is a bridge to peace and prosperity,” Ambassador Sekete said. She added that Lesotho remains committed to promoting water diplomacy across the continent.
