Lesotho and Ghana Strengthen Digital and Creative Sector Ties

The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, is in Ghana for a working visit to enhance cooperation between the two nations in the digital and creative sectors.

During a bilateral meeting with Ghana’s Minister, Honourable Samuel Nartey George, both leaders outlined key areas for collaboration. These include sharing best practices in e-government services, policy development, and hosting joint workshops. They also agreed to introduce exchange programmes in cybersecurity, data management, and digital innovation.

The two countries plan to work together on technology and infrastructure projects to expand internet connectivity. Support for entrepreneurs in fintech, health tech, and agritech will be prioritised, with shared resources to foster growth. Joint research in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data will also be pursued. Public–private partnerships will be encouraged to drive investment and innovation in the digital economy.

Minister Moorosi noted Ghana’s effective strategies for taxing digital platforms like Netflix, DSTV, and Showmax. She said Lesotho will adopt similar measures to increase national revenue. Ghana will also assist Lesotho in building systems that enable Basotho content creators to monetise their work online.

The Minister is scheduled to visit Ghana’s Cybersecurity Authority to study how the country protects its digital space. Plans are also in place to exchange television content, creating opportunities in dubbing and translation. She praised Ghanaian YouTuber Wodemaya for raising Lesotho’s profile globally and suggested a content creator exchange to promote tourism.

Addressing the threat of AI-generated videos used to spread false information or defraud the public, Minister Moorosi said the ministry is investing in AI detection tools and public awareness campaigns to counter disinformation.

She emphasised that the partnership with Ghana will accelerate digital transformation, improve service delivery, and create inclusive economic opportunities for both countries.
