King Letsie III Welcomes India’s Minister of State, Strengthening Lesotho-India Ties

His Majesty King Letsie III today officially welcomed His Excellency Mr. Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India, at the Royal Palace in Maseru. The high-level meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing the long-standing diplomatic and developmental partnership between Lesotho and India.
The visit underscored the warm relations that continue to thrive between the two nations — a bond grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to advancing sustainable development. Discussions during the meeting touched on a range of issues, including economic cooperation, capacity building, health, and education.
His Majesty King Letsie III expressed appreciation for India’s consistent support toward Lesotho’s development efforts over the years. India has played a pivotal role in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, ICT, and the empowerment of youth through scholarships and skills development programs.
For his part, Minister Margherita reaffirmed India’s dedication to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly through people-to-people exchanges and technology transfer. He highlighted India’s readiness to support Lesotho in achieving its development goals, including through ongoing programs under the India-Africa Forum Summit framework.
The visit also provided an opportunity to explore new avenues for cooperation in climate change resilience, digital transformation, and trade facilitation — areas both countries have identified as crucial to future growth.
As the two nations continue to deepen their friendship, today’s engagement stands as a testament to a robust partnership built on trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for prosperity.
