Lesotho–China Partnership Strengthens Health Sector Through Hubei Collaboration

Her Excellency Ambassador ’Mapaballo ’Mile made a significant stride in Lesotho–China relations during her first official visit to Wuhan, Hubei Province, on 26 March 2026. During her visit, she paid a courtesy call to the Health Commission of Hubei Province, where she met with Deputy Director Mrs. Wang Yun. The meeting provided a platform to acknowledge the long-standing bilateral relations between Lesotho and China and to highlight the enduring cooperation between Lesotho and Hubei Province. Both sides expressed gratitude for Hubei’s continuous support of Lesotho’s health sector, particularly noting the deployment of over 203 medical personnel since 1997. The discussions focused on the ongoing Lesotho–China paired medical aid program, which has been instrumental in transferring skills, expertise, and resources to strengthen Lesotho’s healthcare system. Ambassador ’Mile and Deputy Director Wang Yun emphasized the ICU development initiative between Wuhan Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and Maseru District Hospital as a key example of this partnership. This initiative has improved Lesotho’s capacity to handle critical care cases by providing technical training, modern equipment, and knowledge exchange.
