Tranquil Textiles Officially Opens in Maputsoe, Promoting Basotho Entrepreneurship and Job Creation

On December 22, 2025, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development, Honourable Mokhethi Shelile, officiated the official opening of Tranquil Textiles (Pty) Ltd in Maputsoe, Leribe. The event marked a significant milestone for Basotho-owned businesses and local job creation.

In his address, Hon. Shelile highlighted that the growth of Tranquil Textiles aligns with the government’s vision of promoting Basotho-owned enterprises as engines of sustainable employment and inclusive economic development. He stressed that private sector development and entrepreneurship are crucial for economic transformation, noting that the public sector alone cannot accommodate all job seekers.

The Minister also encouraged Basotho youth to actively explore entrepreneurial opportunities, emphasizing the importance of self-driven initiatives in building a resilient economy. He underscored the role of government programs such as the Inclusive Growth Facility (IGF), a joint initiative by MTIBD and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, in supporting business development.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Clement Molupe Molupe, founder of Tranquil Textiles, expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed to the company’s success. He acknowledged the Government of Lesotho’s support through Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion (CAFI) funding, which he said made a substantial difference in expanding operations. The company, which began with only four employees, now employs 60 staff members, demonstrating rapid growth and the potential of Basotho entrepreneurship.

The opening of Tranquil Textiles reflects a broader commitment to fostering local enterprise, creating jobs, and promoting economic self-reliance. The company’s success provides a model for emerging entrepreneurs and reinforces the government’s strategy to strengthen private sector participation in Lesotho’s economic development.
