On December 22, 2025, His Excellency Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane officially handed over seven vehicles to district governors in Maseru, marking a significant step toward enhancing public service delivery across Lesotho.

During the handover, Prime Minister Matekane emphasized the importance of proper use and maintenance of the vehicles. He directed the district governors to ensure the assets are utilized effectively to facilitate public services and meet the needs of their communities.

The Minister of Local Government, Crown, Local Government and Police, His Excellency Lebona Lephema, reinforced the Prime Minister’s message. He urged administrators to use the vehicles responsibly and highlighted that the districts of Berea, Maseru, and Mafeteng will receive their allocated vehicles in the next financial year.

Representing the district governors, Mr. Tlali Mphafi, Governor of Thaba-Tseka District, expressed gratitude on behalf of all recipients. He noted that the Prime Minister had promised support to the districts, and with the handover, that promise has been fulfilled.

The vehicles were allocated to the districts of Leribe, Botha-Bothe, Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek, Quthing, Mohale’s Hoek, and Thaba-Tseka. Local officials noted that the addition of these vehicles will improve mobility, enable quicker response times for public services, and strengthen administrative efficiency at the district level.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that local governance structures have the necessary resources to meet public needs efficiently. The handover also sets a precedent for future support aimed at strengthening district-level service delivery throughout Lesotho.
