2nd Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Held in Cairo

The 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum took place in Cairo, Egypt, from 19-20 December 2025. The event brought together representatives from all 54 African Union Member States, the AU itself, and regional organizations including COMESA, ECOWAS, ECCAS, and UMA. Key continental institutions such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and Afreximbank also participated.

The conference was jointly addressed by the Russian Federation Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sergey Lavrov, and the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty. The discussions focused on strengthening trade, investment, and economic partnerships between Russia and African nations, serving as a preparatory platform for the Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for 2026.

Representing the Kingdom of Lesotho, H.E. ‘Mafelile Molala, Ambassador to the Russian Federation, delivered remarks on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Honourable Lejone Mpotjoana. The ambassador highlighted the importance of deepening trade and investment ties between Russia and Africa, emphasizing opportunities for economic collaboration and sustainable development.

The conference provided a forum for African and Russian policymakers, business leaders, and financial institutions to engage on strategies for boosting economic growth and cooperation. Discussions included trade facilitation, investment promotion, and the role of African-led financial institutions in supporting continental development initiatives.

By fostering dialogue and partnership, the 2nd Ministerial Conference strengthened the framework for Russia-Africa economic cooperation and set the stage for expanded collaboration ahead of the 2026 summit. The forum also reinforced Africa’s strategic role in global trade and investment discussions.
