Prime Minister Matekane Hands Over Classrooms and Toilets at Matlali Primary School

The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane, officially handed over four newly constructed classrooms valued at M4.4 million to Matlali Primary School over the weekend. The donation also included new toilets for both teachers and learners, aimed at improving the learning environment and supporting the overall development of the school community.
During the handover, Prime Minister Matekane explained that the initiative forms part of his nationwide outreach programme, designed to strengthen development in areas with pressing needs. He highlighted that during a previous visit to the school, he observed that the existing infrastructure was deteriorating and that access was limited due to poor road conditions, making the location challenging for learners and staff. The construction of the classrooms and toilets addresses both these infrastructural and accessibility challenges.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to services across the country, regardless of socio-economic status. He promised that further developments are planned, including improvements in road access and health services for communities around the school. Prime Minister Matekane also expressed his hope that in upcoming back-to-school initiatives, support such as school shoes for less privileged learners would be provided. He appealed to learners, teachers, and the local community to protect the new facilities and maintain the school property to ensure long-term benefits.
Speaking at the event, Professor Ntoi Rapapa, Minister in the Ministry of Education and Training, congratulated Matlali Primary School for receiving the investment. He emphasized the importance of such developments in enhancing the educational experience of learners and supporting the broader goal of improving education standards nationwide.
The handover of classrooms and toilets at Matlali Primary School underscores the government’s focus on equitable development and infrastructure improvement, reinforcing efforts to create conducive learning environments for all learners across Lesotho.
