Likila Council Engages Community Ahead of Paramente–Ha Lebetla Road Construction

Ahead of the launch of the Paramente–Ha Lebetla (Seboche) road construction project, the Roads Directorate and China Geo Engineering Corporation held a meeting with Likila Council community leaders to discuss working arrangements and ensure smooth collaboration during the construction period. The meeting aimed to clarify roles, recruitment procedures, and community responsibilities, ensuring transparency and local participation. Both parties emphasized the importance of coordination between government officials and community leaders to maximize benefits for residents in the project area.

Speaking at the meeting, Roads Directorate Senior Human Resource Officer Mr. Rakhoarai Molantoa confirmed that both skilled and unskilled labourers will be employed for the project. He explained that skilled workers are already familiar with the application process, while unskilled labour recruitment will require close cooperation between councillors, chiefs, and the Ministry. The goal is to ensure fair and transparent selection, prioritizing residents within the Likila Council jurisdiction. Mr. Molantoa stressed that local involvement is critical for fostering community ownership and long-term benefits from the project.

Registration for unskilled labourers will take place from 11 to 13 November 2025, targeting individuals aged 18 to 60 years. The recruitment plan includes reserving 30 percent of positions for women and 50 percent for youth, aligning with government efforts to reduce unemployment and promote inclusive economic participation. Mr. Molantoa emphasized that unskilled workers will be remunerated according to the 2024 Labour Wage Gazette, ensuring fair compensation and compliance with national labour standards.

The Roads Directorate urged community leaders to guide residents on proper conduct throughout the construction period. Mr. Molantoa highlighted that responsible behaviour will contribute to a safe and efficient work environment and help ensure the road delivers lasting benefits for the community. The engagement reflects a collaborative approach between government, contractors, and local stakeholders, underlining Lesotho’s commitment to inclusive development and job creation during infrastructure projects.
