Lesotho Participates in Doha 2025 World Second Social Development Summit

Lesotho is taking part in the second World Social Development Summit, held in Doha, Qatar, from 4 to 6 November 2025. This summit marks thirty years since the historic Copenhagen World Summit for Social Development in 1995. Global leaders have gathered to evaluate progress in social development, address persistent challenges, and set a new agenda based on the Copenhagen Declaration principles. The Doha 2025 summit emphasizes eradicating poverty, promoting full and productive employment with decent work for all, and fostering social inclusion to ensure no one is left behind in a rapidly changing world.

The Lesotho delegation is led by His Majesty King Letsie III, highlighting the nation’s commitment to global social development. The delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. Lejone Mopotjoane, Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Development Hon. Pitso Lesaoana, and Minister of Labour and Employment Hon. T’seliso Mokhosi. Other members include the Permanent Representative of Lesotho to the United Nations H.E. Matete ‘Nena, Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union H.E. Nt’siuoa Sekete, Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. ‘Manthabiseng Phohleli, and senior government officials. Their presence signals Lesotho’s dedication to advancing social policies and sharing its national achievements on the international stage.

His Majesty King Letsie III will present Lesotho’s perspectives during the summit and contribute as the African Union Champion for Nutrition in the global leaders’ forum on nutrition. The discussions aim to strengthen partnerships, share best practices, and explore innovative approaches to combat poverty, improve employment conditions, and promote social inclusion. Lesotho’s active participation also highlights its role in regional and global initiatives targeting sustainable social development and human welfare.

The Doha 2025 WSSD serves as a platform to redefine strategies for global social progress and build more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable societies.
