Prime Minister Matekane Engages Civil Society to Strengthen Governance in Lesotho

Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane met with representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Maseru today in a move aimed at promoting inclusive governance and accountability. The meeting focused on strategies to improve service delivery and address pressing national challenges.

During his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the essential role that civil society plays in connecting government initiatives with community needs. “It is only right that we meet with civil society to understand their role in governance,” he said.

Mr. Matekane reaffirmed his commitment to collaborative leadership. “When I took office, I promised to work hand in hand with everyone to make Lesotho a better place. That commitment still stands. I continue to invite all Basotho to come forward and help shape solutions that benefit every citizen,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted collaboration, transparency, and dialogue as core pillars of effective governance. He stressed that a united approach between government and civil society can generate lasting progress in addressing key issues such as poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.

Representatives of CSOs welcomed the engagement, noting that direct dialogue with government leaders creates opportunities for more responsive and effective policies. The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening partnerships between government and civil society in Lesotho, reinforcing a shared goal of sustainable development and improved quality of life for all citizens.

Mr. Matekane concluded by encouraging ongoing cooperation and open communication, stressing that inclusive governance is essential for building a resilient and prosperous nation.
