LNIG-Hollard and Minet Lesotho Celebrate Defensive Driving Graduates in Road Safety Milestone

Insurance companies LNIG-Hollard and Minet Lesotho have taken a bold step in promoting road safety and professional development by awarding defensive driving certificates to seven trainees during a ceremony held this week in Maseru.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to instill safe driving habits and improve operational standards within organisations that rely heavily on vehicle-based services. The graduation ceremony celebrated not just the completion of training, but also a commitment to excellence and safety on the road.

Minet Lesotho CEO, Retṧelisitsoe Leboela, praised the achievement as a significant milestone for both the trainees and the company.

“The completion of this defensive driving course by our seven dedicated trainees is a testament to Minet’s commitment to enhancing skills and fostering a culture of safety. I am confident that the knowledge and techniques acquired will have a positive impact on both their personal and professional lives,” he said.

Leboela also acknowledged the instructors and organisers who made the programme possible, stating that Minet will continue to prioritise safety and excellence in all its initiatives.

LNIG CEO, Mpho Vumbukani, echoed similar sentiments, describing the certification as an important step in elevating the company’s safety standards.

“This achievement not only reflects the trainees’ hard work and commitment, but also demonstrates our ongoing efforts to improve our operational safety,” he said.
“I encourage the newly certified drivers to become ambassadors of safe driving practices, sharing their expertise with others and contributing to a safer working environment.”

Vumbukani revealed that LNIG plans to expand this initiative, with more safety measures and continuous support to ensure high driving standards are upheld throughout the company.

One of the newly certified drivers, Matela Matela, expressed his gratitude for the training opportunity and appealed for a salary review to reflect the additional responsibilities associated with certification.

“As certified defensive drivers, we will be expected to operate and maintain higher-standard vehicles, with varying mileage and fuel demands. In light of these increased expectations, we respectfully request that our compensation be adjusted to match the enhanced value we now bring to the organisation.”

Matela also commended LNIG and Minet for the valuable training, saying it had not only enhanced their driving capabilities, but also deepened their understanding of road safety and responsibility.

“I am confident that the skills and knowledge gained through this programme will enable us to contribute meaningfully to both our organisation and the broader community,” he concluded.

As Lesotho continues to address road safety challenges, corporate-led initiatives such as this defensive driving programme highlight the power of skills development and awareness in building a safer, more responsible driving culture.
