UNFPA and Vodacom Lesotho Strengthen Partnership to Combat Gender-Based Violence

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Lesotho and Vodacom Lesotho have reinforced their commitment to ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to combine resources, expertise, and innovation to address one of the most pressing social challenges facing the country.
UNFPA Country Representative Mr. John Kennedy Mosoti highlighted the critical role of multi-sectoral partnerships in tackling GBV. He noted that no single institution can address the problem effectively on its own and emphasized the importance of collaboration to increase reach, impact, and sustainability of interventions.
Mr. Mosoti further explained that engagement with the private sector brings unique opportunities, including the use of technology and innovative approaches to prevention, support, and awareness. He stressed that coordinated efforts between public and private stakeholders are essential for meaningful progress.
Vodacom Lesotho reinforced its commitment through its foundation. The Head of Vodacom Lesotho Foundation, Mr. Ts’epo Ntaopane, confirmed the company’s dedication to social development. He explained that the Vodacom Foundation will leverage digital solutions and strategic partnerships to protect vulnerable populations and contribute to national development priorities.
The timing of this strengthened collaboration is crucial. Lesotho continues to face high levels of GBV, making coordinated action urgent. Through this partnership, UNFPA and Vodacom aim to scale up initiatives that prevent violence, support survivors, and raise awareness across communities.
This MoU represents a significant step towards long-term solutions to GBV in Lesotho, combining international expertise, private sector innovation, and community engagement to drive measurable impact.
