Prime Minister Samuel Matekane to Officiate Closure of Sebabatso Roadshow in Quthing

The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mr. Samuel Matekane, is set to officially close the two-day Sebabatso roadshow at Liphakoe Sports Ground in Upper Moyeni, Quthing, this Saturday. The roadshow, which began on Friday, aims to boost awareness of the Sebabatso entrepreneurship youth programme, an initiative designed to empower Basotho youth through business and innovation for sustainable economic development.
In an interview, Ms. Lerato Rabolinyane, Senior Entrepreneurship Officer and Sebabatso Coordinator at the Ministry of Gender, Youth, and Social Development, explained that the programme specifically targets youth unemployment by promoting entrepreneurship as a key solution. She highlighted that the initiative encourages young people to innovate, especially in fields such as science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
Ms. Rabolinyane further emphasized that Sebabatso provides participating youth with valuable support, including grants, access to international exchange programs, and opportunities to build vital networks. These resources are designed to help young entrepreneurs grow their skills, expand their businesses, and contribute meaningfully to Lesotho’s economic transformation.
The Sebabatso roadshow in Quthing is part of a broader national effort to engage youth across the country, inspiring them to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and become active contributors to the nation’s development. Prime Minister Matekane’s presence at the closing ceremony underscores the government’s strong commitment to supporting youth empowerment and fostering a culture of innovation.
As Lesotho faces challenges with youth unemployment, initiatives like Sebabatso are critical in providing practical pathways to economic participation and growth for young people. The roadshow serves as a dynamic platform to showcase success stories, share knowledge, and motivate Basotho youth to take bold steps towards entrepreneurship.
The closure event is expected to bring together community leaders, youth entrepreneurs, government officials, and stakeholders to celebrate progress and chart the way forward for continued support of youth-led innovation and business ventures across Lesotho.
