Koro-Koro Community Celebrates Near Completion of New Bailey Bridge

The Koro-Koro community has welcomed the near completion of a new bailey bridge, ending years of hardship caused by the collapse of the previous bridge. The bridge, which fell during heavy rainfall in 2022, had disrupted access to essential services for residents on both sides of the Koro-Koro River.
Following the collapse, villagers had to travel to Mahlabatheng to catch taxis from Roma and Nazareth. Local taxis were rerouted via Ha-Mants’ebo, making daily commutes longer and more difficult. Residents of Ha-Mofoka and nearby villages faced serious challenges accessing health services, schools, and places of worship, especially during the rainy season. Even walking across the river became dangerous or impossible.
In response, construction of Koro-Koro River protection works and a new bailey bridge began in November last year, funded by the Road Fund with an investment of over M46 million. The bridge was delivered over the past weekend, marking a major step toward restoring safe and reliable access for the community.
Speaking to local media, Koro-Koro Area Chief Ts’ita Mofoka expressed optimism, noting that the work, completed in less than a year, will significantly improve residents’ daily lives. The bridge will enable villagers to access health facilities, attend church, and allow children to reach schools safely and efficiently.
The new bailey bridge represents more than infrastructure; it restores connectivity, supports education and healthcare access, and strengthens the social and economic resilience of Koro-Koro and surrounding communities.
