Tour de Maseru Returns: A Celebration of Sport, Unity, and International Partnership

Maseru, Lesotho – The Alliance Française de Maseru, in partnership with the French Embassy to Lesotho and Malawi, is set to host the second edition of Tour de Maseru this Saturday. The highly anticipated event will bring together around 100 cyclists for a vibrant celebration of sport, community engagement, and global cooperation.
According to Ms. Elisabeth Doullet of Alliance Française, this year’s edition is being organised in collaboration with the Federation of Cycling Lesotho, the Lesotho National Olympic Committee, the BBL Mountain Bike Club, and the United States Embassy in Maseru. She said the joint effort reflects the event’s spirit of international friendship and unity through sport.
The event will be held in honour of Olympic and Paralympic Day, observed globally every year on June 23. The day commemorates the founding of the modern Olympic Games in 1894 and celebrates the values of excellence, respect, and inclusion in sport.
Adding further significance to the occasion, the Tour de Maseru will be graced by the presence of Lesotho’s Minister of Sports, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo, who is expected to encourage local athletes and reaffirm the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots sports development.
The Tour de Maseru is more than just a cycling event—it is a platform for fostering health, youth engagement, and intercultural exchange. Participants will include cyclists of all levels, from competitive athletes to casual riders, all uniting under the banner of healthy living and international collaboration.
Last year’s inaugural event was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, and organisers are hopeful that this year’s edition will be even more impactful. Beyond the excitement of the ride itself, the day will feature community interactions, family-friendly activities, and messages highlighting the importance of sport in building stronger societies.
With support from both local and international partners, Tour de Maseru is fast becoming a cornerstone of Lesotho’s sporting calendar. As it aligns with Olympic values and promotes cross-cultural unity, the event continues to inspire a growing community of active, connected, and empowered individuals.
