National University of Lesotho Celebrates 80 Years of Academic Excellence

The National University of Lesotho (NUL) marked a significant milestone on Tuesday as it celebrated its 80th anniversary, reflecting on eight decades of academic development and contribution not only to Lesotho but to the global community. The anniversary event, held at the university’s Roma campus, was graced by dignitaries including King Letsie III, who serves as the university’s Chancellor, and Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso.
In his address during the celebration, NUL Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Fajana highlighted that the occasion was not just a reflection of the university’s progress but also a recognition of its impact on the world. “This celebration marks 80 years of development, not only for Lesotho but for the entire world,” said Professor Fajana. He emphasized that NUL has played an integral role in shaping the future of many individuals and has been a significant contributor to education and research that reaches beyond the borders of Lesotho.
The event was attended by a host of distinguished figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mrs. Ts’epang Mosena, and key government ministers such as Prof. Ntoi Rapapa, Minister of Education and Training, and Pitso Lesaoana, Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development. The presence of these officials underscored the importance of the university to the nation’s development and the role it plays in shaping the future of Basotho.
As part of the 80th-anniversary celebrations, the event also featured a reflection on the university’s growth, challenges, and achievements over the years.
