Wind Energy Project to Boost Jobs, Electricity Supply, and Infrastructure in Mashaleng

The Secretary of Mashaleng Community Council, Mrs. Lineo Mokhants’o, has expressed optimism about the upcoming Wind Energy Project, stating that it will play a significant role in job creation, electricity supply, and infrastructure development in the Mashaleng, Thaba-Mokhele, and Lithipeng community councils.
Mrs. Mokhants’o made these remarks following a two-day Sublease Agreement Workshop, which brought together key stakeholders involved in land allocation. The workshop, organized by Hirundo Lesotho, aimed to discuss the terms of the agreement for the project and ensure that all parties involved understand their roles and responsibilities.
Highlighting the preparations for the project, Mokhants’o recalled that between 2020 and 2021, local authorities were taken on an educational tour to the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The tour provided valuable insight into the operations of a wind farm, demonstrating how turbines generate electricity that is then supplied to the country’s power grid.
She emphasized that the project will not only enhance energy production in Lesotho but also contribute to economic growth by providing employment opportunities and improving infrastructure, particularly roads in the affected areas.
The Wind Energy Project is expected to be a transformative initiative for the region, addressing energy shortages and fostering sustainable development in local communities. With proper stakeholder engagement and strategic planning, the project promises long-term benefits for the people of Mashaleng and beyond.
