Lesotho and Zambia Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

On the sidelines of the recently concluded Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho and President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia held a crucial bilateral meeting, fostering deeper cooperation between the two nations.

During their discussions, the two leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration in several key sectors, including intra-Africa trade, water resources, electricity, mining, irrigation agriculture, and cultural heritage. This meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing economic and cultural ties between Lesotho and Zambia, reflecting the shared vision of both leaders for sustainable development and regional integration.

A particular focus was placed on revitalizing cultural connections between the two nations. Recognizing the historical and cultural bonds that unite their peoples, King Letsie III and President Hichilema agreed to take concrete steps to revive and celebrate these ties.

His Majesty King Letsie III also expressed his intention to honor an invitation from King Lubosi Imwiko II and Paramount Chief Chitimukulu Kanyanta Manga II to attend the 2025 Kuomboka Ceremony in Zambia. The Kuomboka Ceremony, a centuries-old tradition of the Lozi people, marks the annual migration of the Litunga (Lozi King) and his people from the Barotse Floodplain to higher ground. More than just a migration, this cultural event is a profound celebration of resilience, unity, and Lozi heritage.

The strengthened cooperation between Lesotho and Zambia signals a promising future of shared progress, mutual support, and enhanced regional partnerships. As both nations work towards advancing their economic and cultural ties, their commitment to unity and collaboration remains evident.
