Lesotho Receives 18 Metric Tons of Vegetable Cooking Oil from World Food Programme
The government of Lesotho, through the Disaster Management Authority (DMA), has received a generous donation of 18 metric tons of vegetable cooking oil from the World Food Programme (WFP) in Maseru on Thursday. This donation is part of the ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable households affected by the widespread hunger currently facing the country.
Mr. Reatile Ellias, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DMA, expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting its significance in the government’s ongoing food distribution initiatives. He noted that the cooking oil would support the government’s relief efforts, providing much-needed aid to households grappling with food insecurity.
“This donation comes as a critical addition to the food distribution programs already in place to assist vulnerable families who are suffering from the ongoing hunger crisis,” Mr. Ellias stated during the handover ceremony.
The vegetable cooking oil will be distributed through 13 DMA distribution points located across the country. These points are part of the established infrastructure designed to ensure that aid reaches deserving households in a timely and efficient manner. Mr. Ellias emphasized that the aim of this distribution is to alleviate the impact of food insecurity, and he expressed hope that the cooking oil would contribute to improving the nutritional standards of the affected communities.
“This cooking oil will not only address immediate food needs but will also help improve proper nutrition for those who need it most,” Mr. Ellias added.
The donation from the World Food Programme is part of the broader international support Lesotho is receiving in response to the country’s hunger crisis. With the ongoing distribution of food aid and nutrition support, the government and its partners are working together to alleviate the hardships faced by vulnerable communities across the nation.
