Lesotho has emerged as one of the top-performing countries in the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Fiscal Year 2025 Scorecard, achieving impressive results by passing 17 out of 20 indicators. This marks a significant improvement in the country’s performance, highlighting its efforts towards strengthening governance and advancing economic development.

A Significant Achievement

At the announcement of this achievement, Deputy Prime Minister of Lesotho, Justice Nthomeng Majara, expressed pride in the country’s progress, noting that Lesotho’s performance represented an average improvement of about 10 percent compared to the previous year. The MCC Scorecard assesses countries based on various indicators related to economic freedom, governance, and social development. Lesotho’s passing of 17 out of 20 indicators reflects the government’s dedication to meeting international standards in these areas.

Areas of Improvement

Despite the progress, Justice Majara acknowledged that more work remains to be done to improve other indicators and to further enhance the country’s economic growth and development. Lesotho aims to address these gaps to ensure sustained progress and secure future funding and support from MCC.

Recognition of Key Ministries

The Deputy Prime Minister also took the opportunity to applaud the ministries of education and training, as well as natural resources. These ministries have been particularly noted for their improvements, showcasing a strong commitment to advancing Lesotho’s human capital development and natural resource management. Their work has contributed positively to the overall performance of the country on the scorecard.

Lesotho’s continued focus on improving governance, strengthening its institutions, and addressing the challenges that remain in various sectors will be key to sustaining its positive trajectory. As the country works to build on this success, it is expected that further collaboration between various ministries, the private sector, and international partners will play a critical role in fostering long-term growth and development.

This achievement on the MCC Scorecard serves as a testament to Lesotho’s ongoing efforts to meet global standards and secure a better future for its citizens.
