Meet Khauhelo Euniece Mokheseng: Champion for Quality Health Care and Leadership

Khauhelo Euniece Mokheseng, a dedicated nurse with 11 years of experience in hospital and community/primary health care services, is one of the remarkable individuals selected for the 2024 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Soon, she will be heading to the United States to further her mission of improving health care services.

Currently, Khauhelo is entrusted with Quality Improvement responsibilities at Mafeteng Regional Hospital. In this role, she focuses on enhancing key aspects of health care such as client satisfaction, teamwork, data management, systems and processes, communication, and feedback. Her goal is to achieve high-quality health care services by ensuring compliance with standards and sustaining reliable practices.

Khauhelo’s expertise is not limited to quality improvement. She has been a prominent voice at workshops and forums, presenting on psychiatric disorders like depression and anxiety. Her advocacy has led to significant improvements in maternal and neonatal health in Mafeteng. She has championed the training of nurse midwives and the establishment of a neonatal ward at Mafeteng Hospital, contributing to a reduction in neonatal and maternal mortality rates.

Holding a general nursing diploma, as well as qualifications in midwifery and psychiatric nursing, Khauhelo is continuously expanding her knowledge. She has enrolled in online courses covering Leadership and Management in Health Care, Quality Improvement, and Harmonized Health Facility Assessment. Her commitment to continuous learning underscores her dedication to providing the best care possible.

Khauhelo is also deeply committed to advocating for marginalized and vulnerable populations, particularly in the realm of mental health. She emphasizes ethical decision-making and policy shaping to enhance health care services and is passionate about mentoring upcoming health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes.

During her fellowship, Khauhelo will be hosted by the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland, under the Leadership in Civic Engagement track. This opportunity aligns perfectly with her aspirations to promote excellence, equity, and innovation in health care.
