Sebabatso Strengthens Youth Development in Lesotho Through Training of Trainers Workshop for District Youth Officers

Sebabatso is advancing youth empowerment in Lesotho through a focused two-day Training of Trainers workshop designed for District Youth Officers. The programme aims to strengthen the ability of officers to support, guide, and empower young people as they progress through the Sebabatso journey. The initiative responds to the growing need for structured mentorship and improved coordination in youth development services across all districts. It also reflects a national effort to build stronger systems that connect young people with opportunities for growth and innovation. By investing in training at district level, Sebabatso is reinforcing the foundation needed for long-term youth support.

The workshop was officially opened by the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Hon. Pitso Lesaoana, together with the UNDP Lesotho Resident Representative, Dr. Jacqueline Olweya. Their presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions and development partners in advancing youth-focused programmes. The opening session set the tone for discussions centered on improving service delivery to young people and strengthening the role of District Youth Officers. It also emphasized the need for practical skills that can be applied directly within communities. Throughout the workshop, representatives from Lesotho PostBank and other organizations supporting Sebabatso beneficiaries shared valuable insights on available opportunities. These contributions provided participants with a clearer understanding of how financial institutions and development partners can work together to support youth entrepreneurship and innovation. The exchange of ideas helped bridge the gap between institutional support and grassroots implementation. The training was initiated after the Department of Youth identified a need to better equip District Youth Officers with the tools and knowledge required to effectively support Sebabatso participants.
