Lesotho Advances National Cybersecurity Efforts

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MICSTI), Mr. Kanono Ramashamole, in partnership with the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA), convened a meeting today to discuss plans for strengthening cybersecurity in Lesotho and elevating the sector to a national level.

Mr. Ramashamole noted that the initiative began during the development of the Cybersecurity Bill. Challenges encountered during this process prompted the Ministry to conduct a study tour in Botswana to learn best practices and identify strategies for advancing the bill and enhancing national cybersecurity measures.

During the meeting, Mr. Ramashamole highlighted the growing threats in cyberspace, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He stressed the urgent need for coordinated action to address these risks and protect users from emerging cyber threats.

The Principal Secretary emphasized the importance of establishing a well-resourced and capacitated national cybersecurity structure. Such a framework would enable Lesotho to respond effectively to cyber threats, safeguard critical digital infrastructure, and ensure the security of end users across the country.

LCA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nizam Goolam, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the initiative. He expressed full support for efforts aimed at building a robust cybersecurity sector capable of meeting national and global digital security standards.

This collaboration between MICSTI and LCA marks a significant step toward securing Lesotho’s digital landscape. With continued investment in resources, training, and infrastructure, the country is positioned to strengthen its cybersecurity framework and protect users against evolving threats.
