Revenue Services Lesotho, LDF and Department of Forestry Plant 2,000 Trees in Mafeteng

Yesterday, Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL), in partnership with the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Youth Development Program Boot Campers and the Department of Forestry, marked a major milestone in environmental conservation at the LDF Military Base in Mafeteng by planting 2,000 trees.

Since celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, RSL has committed to planting 20,000 trees annually, with the target increasing each year. To date, the organisation has planted 41,000 trees across Lesotho. For the current financial year, RSL aims to plant 22,000 trees, with 4,500 already established at Ha Leutsoa and Hata Butle in Koro-Koro.

This tree-planting initiative is guided by the Lesokoana Strategy 2023–2027, under the Natural Capital pillar, reflecting RSL’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The strategy prioritises natural resource preservation while promoting responsible economic growth.

Planting trees alongside LDF boot camp youth highlights the importance of instilling environmental responsibility in the next generation of leaders. The initiative also fosters teamwork, discipline, and awareness of the critical role young people play in sustaining Lesotho’s natural resources.

RSL continues to collaborate with local nurseries, the Department of Forestry, the LDF, and dedicated staff to expand this initiative into a nationwide movement. Beyond environmental benefits, the programme contributes to economic empowerment by supporting local suppliers and creating opportunities for community engagement in sustainable practices.

Through these ongoing efforts, RSL reinforces its dual commitment to environmental protection and national development, ensuring that Lesotho’s natural landscape is preserved for future generations while promoting responsible civic participation.
