Lesotho Strengthens Ties with International Civil Defence Organisation in Geneva

H.E. Mr. Tsiu Khathibe, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Nations in Geneva, met with H.E. Mr. Arguj Kalantarli, Secretary-General of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO), at ICDO Headquarters in Geneva.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and knowledge sharing. Discussions emphasized the use of technology, innovation, and resilience-building strategies to strengthen national and regional civil defence capabilities.

The ICDO Secretary-General welcomed Lesotho’s interest in participating in the Organisation’s initiatives. He reaffirmed ICDO’s commitment to inclusive international cooperation, highlighting opportunities for Lesotho to engage in training programs, capacity-building projects, and regional emergency management exercises.

Ambassador Khathibe emphasized Lesotho’s commitment to advancing disaster preparedness and response strategies at the national level. He noted that partnership with ICDO would provide access to international expertise and innovative solutions to strengthen Lesotho’s emergency response systems.

The engagement signals a growing collaboration between Lesotho and international partners in civil defence, positioning the country to benefit from global knowledge and support in disaster management and resilience planning.
