Mpilo Roads and Bridges Reconstruction Project Launch Aims to Boost Connectivity and Economic Growth

Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara has officially launched the Mpilo Roads and Bridges Reconstruction Project on behalf of Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane. The launch marks a major step in the government’s ongoing effort to improve national infrastructure and strengthen urban mobility. The project focuses on rebuilding key roads and bridges that link Mpilo with surrounding areas and essential service points. It is designed to improve traffic movement and reduce delays that have long affected commuters and businesses. The announcement highlights the government’s focus on practical development that directly supports daily life and economic activity.

Justice Majara explained that the main goal of the reconstruction project is to ease the flow of traffic in and out of the city. She noted that congestion has created delays for workers, learners, and service providers who rely on these routes every day. By upgrading roads and bridges, the government expects faster travel times and improved access to workplaces and public services. She stressed that efficient transport networks are essential for a functioning economy and for connecting communities. The project is also expected to improve safety for road users by reducing bottlenecks and infrastructure strain.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the economic importance of road infrastructure in national development. She said roads serve as critical links that connect people to schools, hospitals, and markets. Strong transport systems also support trade by allowing goods to move more efficiently across regions. She added that continued investment in infrastructure will help stimulate economic growth and attract further development opportunities. As part of this project, job creation is expected to increase, especially for young people seeking employment. This aligns with Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane’s commitment to expanding work opportunities and reducing unemployment through active development projects.

The reconstruction of Mpilo roads and bridges is scheduled to be completed within 24 months. Justice Majara urged the contractor and all teams involved to maintain high standards of quality throughout the construction process. She also encouraged strict adherence to timelines to ensure the project is delivered without unnecessary delays. The government expects the finished infrastructure to provide long term benefits for residents and businesses in the area. Once completed, the upgraded network is expected to improve mobility, support economic growth, and strengthen service delivery across Mpilo and surrounding regions.
