Man Up Lesotho Launches Campaigns to Empower Men with Disabilities

Man Up Lesotho has announced plans to roll out campaigns aimed at educating men with different disabilities about their rights and equipping them with skills to navigate relationships with their female counterparts. The initiative seeks to promote empowerment, inclusion, and gender-sensitive understanding among men with disabilities.
In an interview following a weekend meeting with men in the community, Mr. Mpho Mahula, Founder and Chief Executive of Man Up Lesotho, emphasized the importance of targeted support for men facing unique challenges. “Our goal is to empower, motivate, and educate men on their rights while ensuring we respect the roles and rights of our female colleagues,” he explained.
Mr. Mahula highlighted that men with disabilities often encounter barriers that limit their ability to fulfill leadership roles within their families and communities. Among the most pressing issues are those faced by men who have lost their eyesight, leaving them particularly vulnerable in managing household responsibilities and making informed decisions.
The campaigns will focus on practical skills training, legal education, and psychosocial support. Participants will learn strategies to assert their rights, manage interpersonal relationships, and strengthen their roles as active and responsible community members. The initiative also aims to reduce stigma and promote equality by encouraging constructive dialogue between men and women.
Man Up Lesotho plans to collaborate with local organizations, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups to ensure the programs are inclusive and responsive to the specific needs of men with disabilities. By combining awareness, skill-building, and support, the association hopes to foster self-reliance and confidence among participants.
The initiative reflects a growing recognition in Lesotho of the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities. By empowering men through education and practical skills, Man Up Lesotho aims to create a more inclusive society where all individuals can exercise their rights and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
