Lesotho Advances Digital Cooperation with India Through MoU Implementation

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Mr. Kanono Ramashamole, has emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to implementing the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lesotho and India. The agreement, established between MICSTI and India’s Ministry of Electronics, is designed to strengthen collaboration in digital services, technology development, and related sectors.
Mr. Ramashamole explained that the MoU aims to support Lesotho in achieving advancements in digital infrastructure, e-governance, and technological services. Implementation is scheduled to begin in the current financial year and will continue over subsequent years, providing a structured pathway to enhance national capacity and technological development. He highlighted that partnerships with India and other developed countries will enable the Ministry to meet its objectives while keeping pace with global technological trends.
The announcement followed the recent visit of India’s High Commissioner to Lesotho, Mr. Prabhat Kumar, who met with the Minister of Information to review the implementation plan for the MoU. Mr. Ramashamole described the visit as a positive step toward ensuring coordinated action and timely execution of the agreement.
A key focus of the MoU is capacitating youth and building expertise in emerging technologies, particularly in areas such as cyber security. Mr. Ramashamole stressed the importance of equipping young professionals with the skills necessary to navigate technological dynamics, including safeguarding against cyber threats.
The developments come shortly after a cyber security meeting hosted jointly by the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) and MICSTI. The meeting aimed to strategise on protecting users in cyberspace and reinforcing national digital security frameworks.
Through the MoU with India, Lesotho seeks to enhance digital service delivery, foster innovation, and strengthen national capabilities. The partnership positions the country to leverage international expertise while building a secure, modern, and inclusive technological environment for citizens, businesses, and government institutions.
