Lesotho’s Ambassador-Designate Mapaballo Lydia Mile Begins Strategic Engagements in China

On December 3, 2025, Her Excellency Ambassador-designate Mapaballo Lydia Mile submitted copies of her Letters of Credence to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking a significant early step as she prepares for her formal presentation to President Xi Jinping next year.
Within days of assuming her duties, Ambassador Mile joined the African Union Permanent Mission and the Group of African Ambassadors in China for a strategic reflection on the FOCAC 2025–2027 Action Plan, held on December 2 and 3. Discussions emphasized the need for Africa to strengthen the alignment between Agenda 2063 and FOCAC commitments to drive coordinated, high-impact development. The meeting highlighted opportunities for countries like Lesotho to attract increased investment and industrial cooperation that can support national development priorities.
Ambassador Mile’s first week in China has set a people-centered, action-driven tone. Her engagements signal Lesotho’s commitment to deepening bilateral partnerships, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and securing foreign direct investment that directly benefits Basotho.
This early diplomatic activity underscores Lesotho’s strategic focus on leveraging multilateral platforms and bilateral relations to achieve sustainable economic growth and strengthen ties with key international partners.
