Lesotho Commemorates International Anti-Corruption Day with Focus on Youth Engagement

On December 9, 2025, the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union (EU), held a ceremony to mark International Anti-Corruption Day at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre. The event highlighted the country’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting transparency in governance.
Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara, speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, emphasized that International Anti-Corruption Day is a moment to reflect on progress achieved and the work still required to eliminate corruption. She noted that this year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption,” highlights the essential role young people play in shaping a fair and honest future for Lesotho.
The Chief Justice underlined the serious impact of corruption on national development, stating that it undermines institutions, economic growth, and public trust. She stressed that combating corruption requires collective action, and young people cannot carry the responsibility alone. Their involvement is crucial to creating a culture of integrity across all sectors.
Brigadier Advocate Mantšo Sello, Director General of the DCEO, noted that Lesotho joins the global community in commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day. She reiterated that engaging youth is central to building a future founded on honesty, accountability, and ethical leadership. The event underscored the government’s dedication to reinforcing anti-corruption measures and ensuring that young people are active participants in fostering transparency across the country.
By focusing on youth involvement and collective responsibility, Lesotho aims to strengthen its fight against corruption, ensuring that future generations inherit institutions grounded in integrity and fairness. The observance also reinforces international solidarity in combating corruption as a shared global challenge.
