RFP Conference in Semonkong Welcomes New Members and Highlights Local Development Plans

On Sunday, the Revolution For Prosperity (RFP) held a major conference in Semonkong under the Maletsunyane constituency, marking the official induction of two Democratic Congress (DC) legislators who had recently joined the party. The new members, Mr. Peiso Kelane from Maletsunyane and Mootsi Lehata from Makhaleng, were warmly welcomed by party supporters.
The conference attracted attendees from multiple political backgrounds, including DC, ABC, LCD, and BAP, reflecting growing support for RFP across constituencies. RFP Leader Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane urged party members to embrace unity and integrate new members to strengthen the party. He emphasized that as the party grows, making new members feel included is key to increasing membership further.
During his address, Mr. Matekane outlined development priorities for the area. He pledged improvements in roads, electricity, and sanitation, and directed relevant ministries to provide progress reports within 30 days. He also highlighted plans to upgrade the Semonkong airbase to accommodate tourist helicopters, boosting the local economy.
Chief of Semonkong, Chief Mohlakana Lerotholi, addressed local challenges, noting that despite being declared a town in the early 2000s, Semonkong still lacks basic infrastructure. He highlighted that electricity is limited to 8am to 10pm, and some areas, including Ha-Salemone, rely on ox-carts for transporting corpses due to poor road access.
Youth engagement was a key theme of the conference. Lesala Maphathe, Youth League Chairperson, urged young people to be proactive in creating jobs, as government employment opportunities are limited. He highlighted M400 million allocated for youth projects and encouraged investment in local production of crafts, soaps, and agricultural goods. Maphathe also called for youth inclusion in government decision-making.
Prior to the conference, Prime Minister and RFP Leader Ntsokoane Matekane attended holy mass at St. Leonard Catholic Church, while Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara visited Phororong LECSA.
The Semonkong conference highlighted RFP’s growing influence, local development commitments, and the party’s focus on youth empowerment and community engagement.
