Queen ‘Masenate Urges Prioritization of Disability at Vodacom Accessibility Conference

Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, as patron of people with disabilities, called for the prioritization of disability inclusion during Vodacom Lesotho Foundation’s multi-stakeholder Disability Accessibility Conference in Maseru on Wednesday. The event brought together government officials, development partners, and private sector representatives to address challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Lesotho.
The Queen emphasized that disability is not a burden and that people with disabilities have the right to enjoy the same benefits as those who are able-bodied. She urged the government to invest in education and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and stressed the need for strong political will to ensure accessibility and inclusion across all sectors.
“People with disabilities deserve to be educated and employed. It is high time we make this a national priority,” Her Majesty said, highlighting the importance of integrating disability considerations into all areas of development planning.
Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Hon. Pitso Lesaoana, reinforced the Queen’s message, noting a shared commitment to promoting inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. He called on development partners to continue supporting disability-focused programmes, ensuring their contributions improve access, participation, and empowerment.
Hon. Lesaoana commended Vodacom Lesotho Foundation for setting a strong example in promoting social inclusion. He highlighted the foundation’s work in technology, education, and community initiatives as evidence that businesses can drive meaningful change and support national development goals.
The conference underscored the need for a multi-sector approach to disability inclusion, emphasizing collaboration between government, civil society, and the private sector. By prioritizing accessibility, education, and employment, Lesotho can advance a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities participate fully in national life.
