Lesotho Strengthens Digital Future as Minister Nthati Moorosi Opens National Data Governance Workshop

The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Nthati Moorosi, officially launched a four-day Data Governance Workshop, marking a pivotal moment in Lesotho’s journey toward digital transformation and cyber resilience.

The workshop, which brings together key players from the public and private sectors, aims to foster meaningful dialogue around current data governance challenges, legislative gaps, and opportunities for reform. Stakeholders are expected to assess Lesotho’s existing digital infrastructure and explore best practices in data stewardship, cybersecurity, and responsible information management.

In her opening remarks, Minister Moorosi emphasized the importance of collaborative policymaking to ensure Lesotho’s digital systems are secure, inclusive, and aligned with global standards. She noted that strengthening data governance is not just about compliance, but also about empowering institutions and citizens to participate confidently in the digital economy.

“This workshop is more than a technical meeting—it’s a national call to action,” said Minister Moorosi. “We must build a framework that protects our people, supports innovation, and aligns with our regional commitments to responsible digital transformation.”

The event provides a platform for participants to identify gaps in existing legislation, share insights on regulatory frameworks, and build consensus around policy reforms that prioritize national development goals while upholding data privacy and protection standards. It also serves as a stepping stone toward positioning Lesotho as a regional leader in digital governance and innovation.

Throughout the four days, experts will facilitate sessions on topics such as data privacy laws, cross-border data flows, cyber threat mitigation, and the ethical use of emerging technologies. Delegates from civil society, academia, international partners, and private tech firms will contribute to shaping a shared national vision for data governance.

The workshop also underscores Lesotho’s growing recognition of data as a strategic asset critical to development planning, economic growth, and public service delivery. As more services become digital, the government aims to ensure the right legal and institutional frameworks are in place to foster trust, transparency, and accountability.

With strong ministerial backing and inclusive participation, the workshop is expected to lay the groundwork for transformative reforms in Lesotho’s data governance landscape, ensuring a safer, smarter, and more digitally empowered future for all Basotho.
