Digital Innovators Summit 2025 Advances AI and Technology in Lesotho

Digital innovators from across Lesotho gathered in Maseru on Friday for the annual Digital Innovators Summit, held under the theme “Empowering Truth in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).” The event, organised by Sky Alpha HD and its supporters, brought together industry experts, students, entrepreneurs, and government representatives to explore the potential of AI in transforming key sectors.
The summit was officially opened by Mr. Kanono Ramashamole, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI). In his remarks, Mr. Ramashamole highlighted that this year’s theme, guided by Lesotho’s AI Policy, aims to promote intelligent control systems to strengthen outcomes in health, agriculture, and technology. He noted that the Communication Act of 2012 is under review to ensure that innovators and entrepreneurs can deploy agricultural skills for innovation-driven development.
“As government, we are confident AI has the potential to save lives and reduce costs for communities, including those in rural areas,” Mr. Ramashamole said. He also emphasized that Lesotho’s membership in the Smart Africa Alliance offers innovators access to regional opportunities and collaboration with counterparts across Africa.
Mr. Tello Leballo, founder of Sky Alpha HD, described the summit as Lesotho’s leading platform for stakeholders to harness technology. He noted that AI has transformed work processes and knowledge management. He also pointed out that, according to the 2025 Digital Strategy, many rural communities still lack internet access, making events like this vital for inclusive technological development.
Mr. Ntoane Lepota, Deputy Rector at Lerotholi Polytechnic, which hosted the summit, said the event provides an exciting opportunity for students to engage directly with industry experts. He highlighted that the summit coincides with the institution’s 120th anniversary. “Digital innovators are problem solvers committed to delivering solutions beyond internet and AI for the benefit of society,” he said.
Representing UNDP, Mr. Morapeli Sekamane noted the agency’s role in supporting the UNIPOD technology hub at Lerotholi Polytechnic. He emphasized that the hub demonstrates how digital innovation can make ambitious technological goals achievable. “In solidarity, we can come together as innovators to achieve our dreams,” he said.
The summit received support from sponsors including LNIG Hollard, Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB), T-Connect, and LHDA. The event highlighted Lesotho’s growing role in digital innovation and AI, providing a platform to connect innovators, policymakers, and communities for inclusive, technology-driven development.
