Russian Ambassador Presents Credentials to King Letsie III

On Wednesday, 27 August 2025, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Lesotho, His Excellency Mr. Roman Ambarov, officially presented his credentials to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace in Maseru. Mr. Ambarov succeeds H.E. Mr. Ilya Rogachev, who recently concluded his diplomatic mission.
The event underscores the strong diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Russia, which date back to 1 February 1980. This year marks the 45th anniversary of official ties between the two nations. Over the decades, the partnership has expanded across multiple sectors, including education, humanitarian aid, culture, and international diplomacy.
During the credential presentation, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening cooperation. Educational programs supported by Russia have benefited students in Lesotho, while cultural exchanges have promoted mutual understanding. Humanitarian aid initiatives have provided critical support in health and social development projects.
The ambassador’s appointment signals continued collaboration and an intention to deepen bilateral relations. Both Lesotho and Russia aim to explore new opportunities in trade, education, and cultural engagement, building on a foundation of long-standing friendship and shared diplomatic goals.
The ceremony at the Royal Palace also highlighted the importance of maintaining active diplomatic channels to address regional and international matters collaboratively. The new ambassador is expected to play a key role in advancing these initiatives and reinforcing the historical partnership between the two countries.
