NUL Nursing Department Donates to Psychiatric Patients at Mohlomi Hospital

The Department of Nursing at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) reinforced its commitment to community engagement and mental health advocacy through a donation to psychiatric patients at Mohlomi Hospital on Friday, 1 August 2025.
The department handed over clothing, cosmetics, and toiletries aimed at improving the wellbeing and dignity of patients living with mental health conditions. This donation forms part of NUL’s ongoing outreach initiatives to support vulnerable groups and raise awareness about mental health challenges in Lesotho.
Speaking at the event, Head of the Nursing Department, Dr. Libuseng Rathobei, stressed the importance of compassion and empathy in healthcare.
“Today is more than just a day of giving—it is a day of connection, compassion, and care. We recognize the unique challenges faced by those living with mental health conditions. Our presence here reflects our commitment to ensuring that mental health is prioritized, and that dignity, empathy, and care remain at the heart of our actions,” Dr. Rathobei said.
She also acknowledged the dedication of healthcare workers at Mohlomi Hospital, commending their tireless service in often demanding circumstances. Dr. Rathobei encouraged patients to embrace the support offered by the wider community in their healing journey.
Acting Nurse Service Manager at Mohlomi Hospital, Mr. Teboho Jaase, expressed gratitude on behalf of hospital staff and patients.
“It is an honour to receive these gifts from the National University of Lesotho. This thoughtful gesture shows the Department of Nursing’s genuine care for our patients, the psychiatric hospital, and the broader nation,” Mr. Jaase stated.
The initiative reflects NUL’s broader mission to promote holistic health, foster collaboration with healthcare providers, and address the needs of vulnerable populations. By engaging directly with mental health institutions, the university continues to strengthen community ties and advocate for improved mental health care in Lesotho.
