The District Youth Innovation Media Drive (DYIMD) engaged young people of Mohale’s Hoek at Hotel Mount Maloti in a dynamic session aimed at fostering creativity and entrepreneurship. The event was organised by the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), American Corner, the Registrar General, the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, and the Lesotho Science and Mathematics Teachers Association.
The DYIMD is part of a nationwide initiative designed to unlock the creative potential of Lesotho’s youth. It addresses persistent youth unemployment by encouraging young people to reimagine their future through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, along with practical problem-solving skills.
The initiative seeks to identify, celebrate, and promote young innovators and entrepreneurs who are driving positive change in Lesotho. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure. Participants were challenged to develop ideas that can impact communities and contribute to national development.
DYIMD will continue to other districts, creating a national network of skilled, inspired, and connected young innovators. By equipping Basotho youth with knowledge, tools, and exposure, the drive aims to prepare the next generation to shape Lesotho’s economic and technological future.
