Lesotho Strengthens Broadcasting Ties with China Through LNBS Tour

Yesterday, Minister of Information, Communications, Science and Technology, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho, His Excellency Yang Xiaokun, for a special tour of the Lesotho National Broadcasting Services (LNBS). The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the nation’s radio and television facilities, including newsrooms and studios, and to engage directly with LNBS staff.
The Minister and Ambassador were accompanied by key officials, including Principal Secretary Mr. Kanono Ramashamole, Director General Mrs. ‘Maleloko Nkhahle, Operations Director Mr. Dyke Sehloho, Chief Engineer Mr. Tlali Manosa, and other senior managers. Honourable Moorosi explained that the visit coincides with government plans to construct new broadcasting offices and studios. She emphasized that support from China would complement the initiatives already allocated in this year’s budget, which covers the early stages of the project.
Ambassador Yang Xiaokun, representing the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), described the tour as productive. He noted that China has previously supported Lesotho in projects such as Maseru District Hospital and the National Library, signaling potential for continued collaboration in the media sector. He also praised LNBS for maintaining and using the broadcasting equipment previously donated by China.
The visit highlights Lesotho’s commitment to modernizing its broadcasting infrastructure while reinforcing bilateral cooperation with China. The government aims to create state-of-the-art media facilities that enhance news delivery, support information dissemination, and strengthen the country’s communication landscape.
