Hololo Development Foundation Donates Food Parcels to Elderly Residents

Hololo Development Foundation (HDF) has donated food parcels to elderly men and women in Hololo Constituency, strengthening support for the community while promoting local agriculture. The initiative sourced food from local farmers across the constituency, creating a reliable market for producers and encouraging increased agricultural production.

The donation event took place at Khukhune Grounds and was attended by key officials, including the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Mr. Lesaoana Pitso. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Pitso praised the efforts of nutrition clubs in Hololo for their role in fighting poverty and supporting the elderly.

“By selling your produce to HDF, you have earned income that will enable you to increase production, knowing that there will be a market for your goods at the end of the year. I applaud your efforts and thank you for remembering the elderly, ensuring that they also have something to put on the table,” he said.

On behalf of the foundation, its founder, Member of Parliament for Hololo and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane, highlighted the foundation’s mission to improve livelihoods in the constituency. He emphasized that the food donation also supports nutrition clubs and encourages further agricultural participation.

“I commend the nutrition clubs for producing food that is now being sold to the foundation. As production increases and more people join these clubs, there is a need to establish an aggregation centre,” Mr. Mpotjoane said.

Representing the elderly beneficiaries, Ms. Masebolelo Qoophe expressed gratitude to the foundation for the support. She noted that many elderly people struggle to meet their daily needs and appealed for continued assistance.

A total of 420 elderly residents benefited from the initiative. More than seven nutrition clubs participated by selling their produce to the foundation, reinforcing local food production and community collaboration. The food donation program has been active since 2023, marking a sustained effort to improve food security and support vulnerable populations in Hololo.
