Nationwide Immunisation Campaign Targets Children Aged Six Weeks to Five Years

The Ministry of Health has announced a nationwide immunisation campaign for children aged six weeks to five years. The campaign will run from October 20 to 24 and aims to reach 95 percent of eligible children across the country.

The initiative seeks to protect children from a range of life-threatening diseases. Vaccines to be administered include DTP-HepB-Hib, which shields against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b.

The polio vaccine will also be provided to prevent poliomyelitis, a crippling viral disease. The pneumococcal vaccine will protect against infections such as pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis caused by pneumococcal bacteria. In addition, the rotavirus vaccine will guard against severe diarrhoea and dehydration in infants and young children.

The Ministry of Health urges parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated during the campaign. Achieving high coverage will reduce disease outbreaks and improve overall child health nationwide.

Healthcare workers and volunteers will operate at clinics, health posts, and community centres to make vaccines accessible. The campaign reflects the government’s commitment to preventive healthcare and safeguarding the next generation.
