Lesotho Science and Mathematics Teachers Association to Host National Science Fair in Maseru

The Lesotho Science and Mathematics Teachers Association (LSMTA) has announced that it will host a three-day National Science Fair starting on July 23, 2025, at the Lehakoe Recreational Centre in Maseru.

The event, which brings together some of the most talented young minds from across the country, aims to promote innovation and creativity among learners. LSMTA President Mr. Keketso Leteba highlighted that the annual science fair is a vital platform for nurturing future scientists, engineers, and innovators in the STEM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Leteba explained that the fair is the culmination of months of preparation, beginning with district-level competitions held in April. Each of Lesotho’s ten districts selected the top three students in various STEM categories, including scientific investigations, innovation, problem-solving, and quizzes.

“This fair is not only about competition. It is about exposing learners to a national stage where they can share their ideas and build confidence. We want to create a culture of scientific thinking and curiosity at a young age,” Leteba said.

Participants will display projects and demonstrate their research in a wide range of topics under the STEM umbrella. Judges will assess creativity, problem-solving skills, innovation, and the scientific method applied in the investigations.

The National Science Fair has grown in importance over the years, and this year’s edition is expected to attract students, educators, industry experts, and government officials who are keen to support Lesotho’s growing interest in STEM education.

The event also serves as a springboard for young learners to explore careers in science and technology, with many past participants having gone on to pursue further studies and careers in related fields.

As Lesotho continues to place more emphasis on science and innovation as drivers of development, platforms such as the LSMTA National Science Fair play a critical role in laying the groundwork for a more technologically advanced future.
