The Disaster Management Authority Welcomes 10 New Vehicles to Boost Response Capacity

On August 8, 2025, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) officially received 10 new vehicles at its head office in Maseru. The fleet includes 7 Mahindra units, 2 Toyota Hilux GD6s, and 1 Toyota Fortuner. This addition aims to improve DMA’s ability to respond rapidly and efficiently to emergencies across Lesotho.

Chief Executive Mr. Reatile Elias emphasized the importance of these vehicles in strengthening DMA’s operations. He stated that the new fleet will enhance mobility and support disaster response teams to reach affected communities in all districts quickly.

The 7 Mahindra vehicles have been allocated to key districts as follows:

  • Berea: X 74 BBP
  • Quthing: X 73 BBP
  • Maseru: X 04 BBP
  • Mafeteng: X 07 BBP
  • Butha-Buthe: X 05 BBP
  • Leribe: X 03 BBP
  • Mohale’s Hoek: X 06 BBP

These vehicles will serve as critical assets for fieldwork, enabling teams to conduct timely interventions and support disaster-affected populations more effectively. The inclusion of Toyota Hilux and Fortuner models adds versatility, suitable for varying terrains across the country.

This fleet expansion marks a significant step in strengthening Lesotho’s disaster management framework. Faster and more reliable transportation will improve coordination and delivery of relief efforts, minimizing the impact of disasters on communities.
