On October 25, 2025, the Department of Tourism conducted a visit to Mamohau High School in Ha Lejone to engage students and promote tourism ambassadorship. The initiative aims to inspire young people to explore careers in the tourism sector and leverage the school’s proximity to key tourist attractions.
During the visit, officials introduced the Tourism Youth Clubs, a new program designed to encourage students to become active promoters of Lesotho’s tourism potential. The clubs will provide training, mentorship, and opportunities for students to participate in tourism-related activities.
Department representatives highlighted the economic and cultural value of tourism, emphasizing that careers in the sector can offer growth, skill development, and pathways to entrepreneurship. Students were encouraged to act as ambassadors for their communities, sharing knowledge about local attractions, heritage sites, and cultural experiences.
The visit included interactive sessions where students could ask questions and learn about practical roles within the tourism industry, including hospitality, guiding, marketing, and event management. Teachers and school administrators expressed support for the initiative, noting that it aligns with educational goals and community development.
The launch of Tourism Youth Clubs at Mamohau High School is part of a broader effort by the Department of Tourism to involve youth in national tourism development. By engaging students early, the program aims to build a generation of knowledgeable, passionate ambassadors who can contribute to Lesotho’s growing tourism sector.
The Department plans to expand the program to other schools in the region, ensuring more students have access to tourism education, career guidance, and hands-on experiences. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting sustainable tourism growth across the country.
