Prime Minister Matekane Launches Rural Electrification in Mantsonyane

Lesotho’s Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane has launched a major rural electrification project in the Mantsonyane Constituency, bringing much-needed development to remote areas of the country.
The Prime Minister was joined by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. Matjato Moteeane, along with senior government officials during the visit. The project will benefit over 400 households and has been allocated M19 million. Construction is scheduled to take eight months.
The villages to be electrified include Tlapa-le-Tsotso, Ha Auplaas, and Ha Chooko.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure agenda aimed at improving the quality of life in underserved areas. Access to electricity will enable better education, improved healthcare services, and support small business development.
Officials confirmed that the project will use local contractors and workers wherever possible, ensuring that the investment stimulates job creation in the region.
Prime Minister Matekane emphasized the importance of inclusive development and said rural electrification is a critical step toward achieving national economic transformation.
