ReNOKA Engages Youth in Strategy Consultation on Natural Resources Management

ReNOKA recently hosted a Youth Strategy Consultation Workshop that brought together young leaders committed to driving change in natural resources management. The event highlighted the role of youth as active players in shaping sustainable solutions for Lesotho’s future.
Participants included climate activists, young farmers, and digital advocates. Their collective message was clear: youth are not only the future but are already leading today.
Mr. Ramatsoku Rampai, Youth and Gender Mainstreaming expert from the Integrated Catchment Management Coordination Unit, stressed the importance of collaboration. “We’re not just educating—we’re co-creating solutions with them,” he said, emphasizing that youth remain central to ReNOKA’s work.
Tiisetso Mohapi spoke on the need for greater involvement of young people in governance. “We talked about the importance of increasing climate literacy and creating genuine access to decision-making spaces not just for consultation but for true leadership,” he noted.
Limpho Matlakala from The Barali Foundation also shared reflections on the workshop. “The insights I gained yesterday were invaluable, and it’s now clearer than ever how crucial it is for us to integrate climate change education and catchment management principles into our carefully tailored modules,” she explained.
Through ongoing programmes, ReNOKA continues to work closely with youth across Lesotho. These efforts range from educational outreach and environmental campaigns to consultation platforms that foster inclusive leadership. The workshop reaffirmed that engaging youth is essential to advancing sustainable catchment management and building resilient communities.
