In celebration of Oral Health Week, Maluti Adventist Hospital, together with Berea Hospital, organized an outreach event for residents of Ha Arone in Mapoteng on Thursday. The initiative aimed to highlight the link between oral health and mental well-being under the theme “Good Oral Health, Good Mental Health.”
Oral hygienist Mrs. Malineo Motšoloane spoke on the effects of poor oral hygiene on mental health. She noted that neglecting teeth and gums can cause pain, embarrassment, and even depression. “When someone feels ashamed of their smile, they may isolate themselves, which adds to emotional distress,” she explained.
Mrs. Motšoloane highlighted common dental issues including gum swelling, bleeding, and toothaches. She emphasized that these problems can disrupt daily life and negatively affect mental wellness. The outreach included demonstrations of proper tooth brushing techniques and advice on daily oral care routines to prevent dental problems.
The event reinforced the importance of maintaining oral health as a crucial part of overall mental and physical well-being. Residents were encouraged to adopt consistent hygiene practices and seek regular dental check-ups.
